What this is
Road to a Million is a public experiment: one person, starting at a net worth of minus five thousand dollars, trying to reach one million dollars in three years. Every number is tracked in public.
The format
- Daily update. A one minute video every day. Monday to Saturday shows every transaction made that day. Sunday shows the balance of every account.
- The Ledger. A weekly episode that adds up the week.
- Monthly recap. Income, spending, savings rate and the change in net worth for the month.
The same video goes to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X. The numbers on this site come from the same records used in the videos.
Why anonymous
The channel is anonymous on purpose. Money is personal, and staying anonymous makes it possible to show every real number without holding anything back. The plan is to stay anonymous until the goal is reached.
How the numbers work
- Net worth on Sundays comes from the balance of every account: assets minus debts.
- On other days it is an estimate: the last Sunday total plus the money in and out since then.
- Spending is shown as an amount and a category only.
- Moving money between accounts does not change net worth.
